An Act to amend the Enlistment Act, 1970 (No. 25 of 1970).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Enlistment (Amendment) Act, 1970, and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Repeal and re-enactment of section 12
2.  Section 12 of the Enlistment Act, 1970, is hereby repealed and the following substituted therefor: —
Liability to render full-time service
12.—(1)  Every person subject to this Act who is fit for national service and enlisted on or after the date of the coming into operation of the Enlistment (Amendment) Act, 1970 (Act   of 1970), shall be liable to render full-time service for a period not exceeding two years except that where a person is during the period of service —
(a)promoted to any rank above the rank of Lance-Corporal; or
(b)selected by the proper authority for officer training,
he shall be liable to serve for a period not exceeding two years and six months.
(2)  Any reduction or reversion in rank shall not affect the liability of any person incurred under subsection (1) of this section.
(3)  Nothing in this section shall affect the liability to render full-time national service of any person enlisted prior to the date of the coming into operation of the Enlistment (Amendment) Act, 1970.”.
