Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act (Chapter 97 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: —
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons (Amendment) Act, 1973 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Amendment of section 3
2.  Section 3 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act (hereinafter in this Act referred to as “the principal Act”) is hereby amended by deleting the words “to caning” appearing at the end thereof and substituting therefor the words “shall also be punished with caning with not less than six strokes”.
Amendment of section 4
3.  Section 4 of the principal Act is hereby amended by deleting the words “to caning” appearing at the end thereof and substituting therefor the words “shall also be punished with caning with not less than six strokes”.
Amendment of section 6
4.  Subsection (1) of section 6 of the principal Act is hereby amended by deleting the words “to caning” appearing at the end thereof and substituting therefor the words “shall also be punished with caning with not less than six strokes”.
Amendment of section 7
5.  Subsection (1) of section 7 of the principal Act is hereby deleted and the following substituted therefor: —
(1)  Any person who, otherwise than for a lawful purpose —
(a)carries or has in his possession or under his control; or
(b)manufactures, sells or hires or offers or exposes for sale or hire; or
(c)lends or gives to any other person,
any scheduled weapon shall be guilty of an offence under this Act and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years and shall also be punished with caning with not less than six strokes, and in the case of a second or subsequent offence to imprisonment for a term of not less than two years and not more than eight years and shall also be punished with caning with not less than six strokes.”.
