Constitution of the Republic of Singapore (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore (1992 Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows:
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore (Amendment) Act 1997 and shall come into operation on such date as the President may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Amendment of Article 39
2.  Article 39(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore is amended by deleting the words “6 in number” in paragraph (c) and substituting the words “9 in number”.
Amendment of Fourth Schedule
3.  The Fourth Schedule to the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “6 persons” in section 3(1) and substituting the words “9 persons”;
(b)by deleting the words “or 5” in the first and in the last lines of section 6;
(c)by deleting the words “6 persons” in the second line of section 6 and substituting the words “9 persons”; and
(d)by deleting the words “not exceed 6” in the last line of section 6 and substituting the words “not exceed 9”.
