(Chapter 36)
Central Provident Fund (Education Scheme) (Amendment) Regulations 2008
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 23 of the Central Provident Fund Act, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Senior Minister of State, charged with the responsibility of the Minister for Manpower, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Central Provident Fund (Education Scheme) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 and shall come into operation on 1st November 2008.
Amendment of regulation 2
2.  Regulation 2 of the Central Provident Fund (Education Scheme) Regulations (Rg 18) is amended —
(a)by deleting the definition of “course of study” and substituting the following definition:
“ “approved educational institution” has the same meaning as in section 22(6) of the Act;”; and
(b)by renumbering the regulation as paragraph (1) of that regulation, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following paragraph:
(2)  For the purposes of section 22 of the Act and these Regulations, “course of study” means a full-time course of study which —
(a)is conducted primarily at an approved educational institution; and
(b)leads to an undergraduate degree (including an Honours degree) or a diploma (including an advanced Diploma) conferred by —
(i)that approved educational institution; or
(ii)another educational institution approved by the Minister for the purposes of this paragraph, being an educational institution which conducts a course leading to an undergraduate degree (including an Honours degree) or a diploma (including an advanced Diploma) in collaboration with that approved educational institution.”.
Miscellaneous amendments
3.  The Central Provident Fund (Education Scheme) Regulations are amended by deleting the words “approved tertiary institution” in the following provisions and substituting in each case the words “approved educational institution”:
Regulations 3(1), (3) and (4), 4(1), 5(1) and (2)(a) and 7(1) and (2).
