Building Control Act
(Chapter 29)
Building Control Act (Amendment of Schedule) Order 1997
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 52 of the Building Control Act, the Minister for National Development hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1.  This Order may be cited as the Building Control Act (Amendment of Schedule) Order 1997 and shall come into operation on 7th July 1997.
Amendment of Schedule
2.  The Schedule to the Building Control Act is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the definitions of “ “compartment wall” and “compartment floor” ” in paragraph 1, the following definition:
“ “Construction Industry Development Board” means the Construction Industry Development Board established under the Construction Industry Development Board Act (Cap. 51);”;
(b)by deleting the full-stop at the end of the definition of “protected shaft” in paragraph 1 and substituting a semicolon, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following definition:
“ “trained worker” means a person who holds a certificate issued by the Construction Industry Development Board for installing a structural supporting system to support a window air-conditioning unit or a condensing equipment of an air-conditioning unit which is installed —
(a)on the exterior of a building; or
(b)in such a manner that a part of such unit or equipment projects outwards from a building.”; and
(c)by deleting paragraph 12 and substituting the following paragraph:
12.  All air-conditioning works except that in the case of any window air-conditioning unit, or any condensing equipment of an air-conditioning unit, that is installed —
(a)on the exterior of a building (other than a bungalow, semi-detached, terraced or linked house); or
(b)in such a manner that a part of such unit or equipment projects outwards from a building (other than a bungalow, semi-detached, terraced or linked house),
the unit or equipment, as the case may be, must be supported by a structural supporting system installed on the exterior of the building by a trained worker, and the unit or equipment must be affixed to the structural supporting system by a trained worker.”.
