Family Justice
(Amendment) Rules 2020

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 46 of the Family Justice Act 2014 and all other powers enabling us under any written law, we, the Family Justice Rules Committee, make the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Family Justice (Amendment) Rules 2020 and come into operation on 15 June 2020.

Amendment of rule 9

2. Rule 9 of the Family Justice Rules 2014 (G.N. No. S 813/2014) is amended —

(a)

by inserting, immediately after the word “company” wherever it appears in paragraphs (1)(a)(i) and (b)(i) and (2)(a), the words “, variable capital company”;

(b)

by deleting the words “a company or a limited liability partnership, give leave for an officer of the company or limited liability partnership to act on its behalf in any relevant matter or proceeding to which the company or limited liability partnership” in paragraph (2) and substituting the words “a company, variable capital company or limited liability partnership, give leave for an officer of the company, variable capital company or limited liability partnership to act on behalf of the company, variable capital company or limited liability partnership in any relevant matter or proceeding to which the company, variable capital company or limited liability partnership”;

(c)

by inserting, immediately after the word “company,” in paragraph (4)(a)(i), (ii) and (iii), (b) and (c), the words “variable capital company,”;

(d)

by inserting, immediately after the word “company” wherever it appears in paragraph (a) of the definition of “officer” in paragraph (6), the words “or variable capital company”; and

(e)

by deleting the full-stop at the end of the definition of “registered trade union” in paragraph (6) and substituting a semi‑colon, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following definition:

“ “variable capital company” has the meaning given by section 2(1) of the Variable Capital Companies Act 2018 (Act 44 of 2018).”.
