(Motor Vehicles, Driving Licences)
(Amendment) Rules 2020
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 48 of the Road Traffic Act, the Minister for Home Affairs makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules are the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Driving Licences) (Amendment) Rules 2020 and come into operation on 1 April 2020.
Amendment of rule 2
2.  Rule 2(1) of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Driving Licences) Rules (R 27) is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the definition of “driving licence”, the following definition:
“ “electric motor cycle” means a motor cycle that is mechanically propelled by means of an electric traction motor;”; and
(b)by inserting, immediately after the definition of “Police Class 2 Intermediate riding test (Basic)”, the following definition:
“ “power rating”, in relation to an electric motor cycle, means the maximum aggregate power output, expressed in kilowatts (kW), of the electric traction motor of the electric motor cycle;”.
Amendment of rule 19
3.  Rule 19 of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Driving Licences) Rules is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the word “centimetres” in paragraph (b), the words “, and electric motor cycles with a power rating that exceeds 25 kW”;
(b)by inserting, immediately after the word “centimetres” in paragraph (c), the words “, and electric motor cycles with a power rating that exceeds 15 kW but that does not exceed 25 kW”; and
(c)by deleting the words “or motor cycles which are propelled by electric motors and registered as motor cycles under the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) Rules (R 5)” in paragraph (d) and substituting the words “and electric motor cycles with a power rating that does not exceed 15 kW”.
