Sale of Food Act
(Chapter 283)
Food (Amendment) Regulations 2001
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38(1) of the Sale of Food Act, the Minister for the Environment hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Food (Amendment) Regulations 2001 and shall come into operation on 1st April 2001.
Amendment of regulation 6
2.  Regulation 6 of the Food Regulations (Rg 1) is amended —
(a)by deleting paragraph (2); and
(b)by deleting the words “and soft drinks” in paragraph (4).
Deletion and substitution of regulation 14
3.  Regulation 14 of the Food Regulations is deleted and the following regulation substituted therefor:
Imported food to be registered
14.—(1)  No person shall import any food that has not been registered with the Director.
(2)  Imported food is deemed registered in accordance with paragraph (1) if it is imported under a permit to import issued under the Regulation of Imports and Exports Regulations (Cap. 272A, Rg 1) and the following particulars appear on the permit to the satisfaction of the Director:
(a)brand name of the product, or the word “unbranded” if the product has no brand name;
(b)importer’s name;
(c)importer’s address;
(d)product description;
(e)country of origin of the product;
(f)quantity and units; and
(g)arrival date.
(3)  Paragraph (1) shall not apply to meat and fish, fresh fruits and vegetables imported under permits issued by the Director-General, Agri-food and Veterinary Services.”.
Amendment of regulation 16
4.  Regulation 16 of the Food Regulations is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after paragraph (3), the following paragraph:
(3A)  Salt may contain the following anti-caking agents in amounts not exceeding 10 ppm, whether alone or used in combination:
(a)potassium ferrocyanide; or
(b)sodium ferrocyanide.”; and
(b)by deleting the words “paragraph (3)” in paragraph (4) and substituting the words “paragraphs (3) and (3A)”.
Amendment of regulation 22
5.  Regulation 22(2) of the Food Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately after the word “namely,” in the 4th line, the word “diacetin,”.
Amendment of regulation 28
6.  Regulation 28 of the Food Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately after paragraph (4), the following paragraph:
(5)  Methanol may be used as an extraction solvent in food, provided that the residue of methanol in the food does not exceed 5 ppm.”.
Amendment of First Schedule
7.  The First Schedule to the Food Regulations is amended —
(a)by deleting item 1;
(b)by deleting “$75” in items 3 (a) and 4 and substituting in each case “$78”; and
(c)by deleting “$105” in item 6 and substituting “$115”.
Amendment of Ninth Schedule
8.  The Ninth Schedule to the Food Regulations is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately below the item “Adipic acid;”, the item “Alpha-acetolactate decarboxylase (from a genetically modified strain of Bacillus subtilis);”;
(b)by inserting, immediately below the item “Beta-glucanase (endo-glucanase from Bacillus subtilis);”, the item “Beta-glucanase (endo-glucanase from Hunicola insolens);”; and
(c)by inserting, immediately below the item “Papain;”, the item “Pentosanase (xylanase or hemicellulase from a genetically modified strain of Aspergillus oryzae);”.
