Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Remuneration) (Amendment) Order 2001

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 108 of the Legal Profession Act, we the committee appointed under that section hereby make the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Remuneration) (Amendment) Order 2001 and shall come into operation on 1st March 2001 and shall apply to all business for which instructions are accepted on or after that date.

Amendment of First Schedule

2. The First Schedule to the Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Remuneration) Order (O 1) is amended by deleting items 1 and 2 under the heading “SCALE” and substituting the following items:

“1. Subject to paragraphs 3 and 4 and the Rules, the charges in respect of sales, purchases and mortgages completed shall be as follows:

Consideration

Scale charges

Up to $10,000

$1.50 per $100

For the next $490,000

$0.45 per $100

For the next $500,000

$0.35 per $100

For the next $1,000,000

$0.25 per $100

For the next $500,000

$0.15 per $100.

2. The costs on the excess over $2,500,000 on all transactions shall be negotiable.”.

Transitional

3. In respect of any business for which instructions have been accepted before 1st March 2001, the Legal Profession (Solicitor’s Remuneration) Order in force immediately before that date shall continue to apply as if this Order had not been made.
