Maintenance of Parents (Amendment) Rules 2011

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 21 of the Maintenance of Parents Act, the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Maintenance of Parents (Amendment) Rules 2011 and shall come into operation 15th March 2011.

New rule 1A

2. The Maintenance of Parents Rules (R 1) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) are amended by inserting, immediately after rule 1, the following rule:

“Forms

1A. Any reference in these Rules to a numbered form shall be construed as a reference to the current version of the form bearing the corresponding number which is displayed at http://www.maintenanceofparents.gov.sg.”.

Amendment of rule 2

3. Rule 2(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “set out in the Schedule”.

Amendment of rule 4

4. Rule 4 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)	by inserting, immediately after the words “the President” in paragraph (1)(c), the words “or a deputy President”;
(b)	by deleting the words “given by the President of the Tribunal” in paragraph (1) and substituting the words “given by the President or deputy President of the Tribunal, as the case may be”; and
(c)	by deleting the words “payment of a fee of $10” in paragraph (2) and substituting the words “request in writing addressed to the Secretary”.

Amendment of rule 5

5. Rule 5 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “set out in the Schedule” in paragraphs (1), (2) and (3)(d).

Amendment of rule 6

6. Rule 6 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “set out in the Schedule” in paragraphs (1) and (2).

Amendment of rule 7

7. Rule 7(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “set out in the Schedule to the applicant, respondent and co-respondents” in sub-paragraph (d) and substituting the words “to the applicant and respondents”.

Amendment of rule 8

8. Rule 8 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)

by deleting the words “or co-respondent” in paragraphs (1) and (2)(b) and (c);

(b)

by deleting the words “set out in the Schedule” in paragraph (1);

(c)

by deleting the words “or co-respondent’s” in paragraph (2)(a); and

(d)

by deleting paragraph (3) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(3) The respondent shall serve a copy of the answer and the statements and documents referred to in paragraph (2) on the applicant and other respondents.”.

Amendment of rule 9

9. Rule 9(1) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “respondent, co-respondents” in sub-paragraph (b) and substituting the word “respondents”.

Amendment of rule 10

10. Rule 10 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)	by deleting the words “or co-respondent” in paragraphs (1), (2) and (4);
(b)	by deleting the words “set out in the Schedule” in paragraph (2);
(c)	by deleting the words “respondent, co-respondents” in paragraph (3)(b) and substituting the word “respondents”; and
(d)	by deleting the words “or co-respondent’s” in the rule heading.

Amendment of rule 11

11. Rule 11 of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)	by deleting the words “section 71, 79” in paragraph (1) and substituting the words “section 71, 71A, 71B, 71C, 79, 79A”; and
(b)	by deleting the words “or co-respondent” in paragraph (2).

Amendment of rule 13

12. Rule 13(4) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “set out in the Schedule”.

Amendment of rule 14

13. Rule 14 of the principal Rules is amended by inserting, immediately after the words “the President” in paragraphs (1) and (2), the words “or a deputy President”.

Amendment of rule 16

14. Rule 16 of the principal Rules is amended by inserting, immediately after the words “The President”, the words “or a deputy President”.

Deletion of Schedule

15. The Schedule to the principal Rules is deleted.
