Town Councils (Establishment) (Consolidation) (Amendment) Order 1997

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 of the Town Councils Act, the Minister for National Development hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Town Councils (Establishment) (Consolidation) (Amendment) Order 1997 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 13th January 1997.

Amendment of Schedule

2. The Schedule to the Town Councils (Establishment) (Consolidation) Order (O 2) is amended —

(a)

by deleting items 2 to 4 and substituting the following items:

“2. Ang Mo Kio.

3. Bishan-Toa Payoh.

4. Bukit Timah.

5. East Coast.”;

(b)

by deleting item 8 and substituting the following item:

“8. Tanjong Pagar-West Coast.”;

(c)

by deleting item 12 and substituting the following item:

“11. Pasir Ris.”;

(d)

by deleting items 14, 15, 16, 19, 22 to 25; and

(e)

by re-numbering items 13, 17, 18, 20 and 21 as items 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, respectively.

Change of corporate name

3. As from the commencement of this Order, the Town Council for the Town of Ang Mo Kio Yishun and the Town Council for the Town of Tanjong Pagar shall be known as the Town Council for the Town of Ang Mo Kio and the Town Council for the Town of Tanjong Pagar-West Coast, respectively, and such change of corporate name shall not affect the identity of either Town Council or any rights or obligations of either Town Council or render defective any legal proceedings by or against either Town Council, and any legal proceedings that might have been continued or commenced by or against either Town Council by its former corporate name may be continued or commenced by or against either Town Council by its new corporate name.
