Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction
and Use) (Amendment) Rules 1998
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) (Amendment) Rules 1998 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1998.
Amendment of rule 21
2.  Rule 21 of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Construction and Use) Rules (R 9) is amended by inserting, immediately after paragraph (3), the following paragraphs:
(4)  The glass of the front windscreen fitted to a motor vehicle shall not be made of a material or be of a design such as to prevent, obstruct or interfere with transmission of signals between an in-vehicle unit installed in such vehicle and any ERP facility.
(5)  No person shall —
(a)make or cause to be made to the front windscreen fitted to a motor vehicle any addition or alteration; or
(b)apply or cause to be applied to the front windscreen fitted to a motor vehicle any coating or other substance,
which has the effect of preventing, obstructing or interfering with the transmission of signals between an in-vehicle unit installed in such motor vehicle and any ERP facility.
(6)  In this rule, “in-vehicle unit” and “ERP facility” have the same meanings as in the Road Traffic (Electronic Road Pricing System) Rules 1998 (G.N. No. S 176/98).”.
