(Halal Certificates) (Amendment)
Rules 2016
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 88C of the Administration of Muslim Law Act, the Majlis Ugama Islam, Singapura, with the approval of Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, who is charged with the responsibility for the portfolio of the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth as regards Muslim affairs, makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules are the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) (Amendment) Rules 2016 and come into operation on 1 August 2016.
Amendment of rule 2
2.  Rule 2 of the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) Rules (R 8) is amended by inserting, immediately after the definition of “Government school”, the following definition:
“ “poultry” includes a chicken, a duck, a goose, a quail or a turkey;”.
Deletion and substitution of Schedule
3.  The Schedule to the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) Rules is deleted and the following Schedule substituted therefor:

Saving provision
4.  Despite rule 3, the Schedule to the Administration of Muslim Law (Halal Certificates) Rules as in force immediately before 1 August 2016 continues to apply to —
(a)any application under section 88A(2) of the Act for a halal certificate in relation to any product, service or activity; or
(b)any application for approval under section 88A of the Act to use a specified halal certification mark,
which is made to the Majlis before that date.
