Road Traffic
(Bicycles — Construction and Use)
Rules 2018
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Road Traffic Act, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules are the Road Traffic (Bicycles — Construction and Use) Rules 2018 and come into operation on 1 May 2018.
Definitions
2.  In these Rules —
“unladen weight”, for a bicycle, means the weight of the bicycle, including the body and all equipment and accessories (if any) attached to the bicycle, but excluding any person or carry‑on baggage on the bicycle;
“width”, for a bicycle, means the width of the bicycle, including the body and all equipment and accessories (if any) attached to the bicycle, but excluding any person or carry‑on baggage on the bicycle.
Overall width
3.  The overall width of a bicycle must not exceed 700 millimetres.
Unladen weight
4.  The unladen weight of a bicycle must not exceed 20 kilograms.
General powers of enforcement
5.—(1)  The Registrar or an authorised officer may, by notice, require the owner of a bicycle to furnish evidence that the bicycle complies with all or any of the provisions of these Rules.
(2)  The Registrar or an authorised officer may, in any particular case, upon the application of any person, waive the operation of any provisions in these Rules in relation to that person or a bicycle that is the subject of that application, subject to such conditions as the Registrar or the authorised officer may impose.
(3)  In this rule, “authorised officer” has the same meaning as in section 6(4) of the Act.
