Public Entertainments and Meetings Act
(Chapter 257)
Public Entertainments and Meetings (Amendment) Rules 2002
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 23(1) of the Public Entertainments and Meetings Act, the Minister for Home Affairs hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Public Entertainments and Meetings (Amendment) Rules 2002 and shall come into operation on 1st July 2002.
Deletion and substitution of rule 2
2.  Rule 2 of the Public Entertainments and Meetings Rules (R 1, 2002 Ed.) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is deleted and the following rule substituted therefor:
Definitions
2.  In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires —
“ad hoc performance” and “arts entertainment” have the same meanings as in the Schedule to the Act;
“licence” means a licence issued under the Act for any public entertainment, other than arts entertainment.”.
Amendment of First Schedule
3.  Form B of the First Schedule to the principal Rules is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “Dates of commencement and expiry” in the 1st paragraph and substituting the words “Dates/Times of commencement and expiry”; and
(b)by deleting the words “the date of expiry, unless cancelled or suspended prior to such date” in the 2nd paragraph and substituting the words “its expiry, unless cancelled or suspended prior to its expiry”.
Amendment of Second Schedule
4.  The Second Schedule to the principal Rules is amended —
(a)by deleting items 1, 2 and 3 and substituting the following items:
1. Any —
 
As specified in Table A
 
As specified in Table A or, where no seats are provided, $10
(a) public entertainment in any hotel, cabaret, nightclub, lounge, discotheque, restaurant, café, bar or pub
 
 
 
 
(b) boxing or wrestling contest
 
 
 
 
(c) performance of music, singing or dancing, gymnastics, acrobatics, demonstrations, displays or parades held indoors (other than ad hoc performances)
 
 
 
 
(d) circus or exhibition of animals
 
 
 
 
2. Any performance of music, singing or dancing, gymnastics, acrobatics, demonstrations, displays or parades held outdoors (other than ad hoc performances)
 
 
As specified in Table B or, where no seats are provided, $10
3. Any lecture, talk, address, debate or discussion
 
 
As specified in Table B or, where no seats are provided, $10
(b)by deleting item 8; and
(c)by inserting, immediately after the word “entertainment” in item 11, the words “(other than arts entertainment)”.
