Infectious Diseases (Human Remains from Tsunami-affected Areas) (Exemption) Order 2005

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 71 of the Infectious Diseases Act, the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Human Remains from Tsunami-Affected Areas) (Exemption) Order 2005 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 31st December 2004.

Exemption

2.—(1) The Minister hereby exempts from section 43(1) and (2) of the Act any person who brings into Singapore from any of the countries specified in the Schedule, any corpse or human remains or bones of a deceased person who died from drowning, injury or any other condition caused by the Asian tsunami which occurred on 26th December 2004.

(2) Notwithstanding sub-paragraph (1), where the deceased person was not a citizen or permanent resident of Singapore at the time of his death, the prior written permission of the Director-General has to be obtained.
