Road Traffic
(Carriage of Persons in Goods Vehicles)
(Amendment) Rules 2011

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 77(6) of the Road Traffic Act, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Road Traffic (Carriage of Persons in Goods Vehicles) (Amendment) Rules 2011 and shall come into operation on 31st July 2011.

Amendment of rule 3

2. Rule 3 of the Road Traffic (Carriage of Persons in Goods Vehicles) Rules 2010 (G.N. No. S 663/2010) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended by deleting “8(2)” and substituting “8(1)”.

Deletion and substitution of rule 8

3. Rule 8 of the principal Rules is deleted and the following rule substituted therefor:

“Computation of number of persons carried

8.—(1) No person shall drive, or cause or permit a person to drive, a goods vehicle carrying passengers if the clear floor space of the deck available for each passenger is less than 0.372 square metres.

(2) No owner of a goods vehicle shall allow the goods vehicle to be driven in contravention of paragraph (1).”.

Amendment of rule 9

4. Rule 9 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting paragraph (2) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(2) The marking or label referred to in paragraph (1) shall —

(a)

in the case of a goods vehicle which has an open deck for the carriage of goods —

(i)	conform to the specifications set out in Diagram 1 of the Schedule if the vehicle is registered before 1st January 2010 and is used for the carriage of passengers; or
(ii)	conform to the specifications set out in Diagram 2 of the Schedule if the vehicle is registered on or after 1st January 2010 and is used for the carriage of passengers; and

(b)

in the case of any other goods vehicle, conform to the specifications set out in Diagram 1 of the Schedule.”.
