Infectious Diseases
(Notification of Infectious Diseases)
(Amendment No. 2) Regulations 2016
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 73(1) of the Infectious Diseases Act, the Minister for Health makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations are the Infectious Diseases (Notification of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations 2016 and come into operation on 28 September 2016.
Deletion and substitution of regulations 4 and 5
2.  Regulations 4 and 5 of the Infectious Diseases (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2008 (G.N. No. S 612/2008) are deleted and the following regulations substituted therefor:
Person to be notified
4.  For the purposes of section 6(1), (2) and (3) of the Act, notification of an infectious disease mentioned in the Schedule is treated as having been given to the Director if the notification is given to the Director of the Communicable Diseases Division, Ministry of Health.
Time and manner of notification
5.—(1)  For the purposes of section 6(1) of the Act, the prescribed times for notification of an infectious disease are —
(a)in the case of an infectious disease mentioned in Part 1 of the Schedule, within 24 hours after the medical practitioner has reason to believe or suspect that any person attended or treated by the medical practitioner is suffering from or is a carrier of that infectious disease; and
(b)in the case of an infectious disease mentioned in Part 2 of the Schedule, within 72 hours after the medical practitioner has reason to believe or suspect that any person attended or treated by the medical practitioner is suffering from or is a carrier of that infectious disease.
(2)  For the purposes of section 6(2) of the Act, the prescribed times for notification of an infectious disease are —
(a)in the case of an infectious disease mentioned in Part 1 of the Schedule, within 24 hours after the person becomes aware of the existence of that infectious disease in the course of the person’s work; and
(b)in the case of an infectious disease mentioned in Part 2 of the Schedule, within 72 hours after the person becomes aware of the existence of that infectious disease in the course of the person’s work.
(3)  For the purposes of section 6(3) of the Act, the prescribed times for notification of an infectious disease are —
(a)in the case of an infectious disease mentioned in Part 1 of the Schedule, within 24 hours after the person is aware or suspects that any other person is suffering or has died from or is a carrier of that infectious disease; and
(b)in the case of an infectious disease mentioned in Part 2 of the Schedule, within 72 hours after the person is aware or suspects that any other person is suffering from or is a carrier of that infectious disease.
(4)  Every notification under section 6(1), (2) or (3) of the Act must be given by fax or through the electronic notification system.”.
Deletion and substitution of Schedule
3.  The Schedule to the Infectious Diseases (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2008 is deleted and the following Schedule substituted therefor:
