Parliamentary Elections
(Exemption from section 83(1)(d) and (2))
(Amendment) Regulations 2024

In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 83(9) and 102 of the Parliamentary Elections Act 1954, the Prime Minister makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.—(1) These Regulations are the Parliamentary Elections (Exemption from section 83(1)(d) and (2)) (Amendment) Regulations 2024 and, except for regulation 5, come into operation on 14 June 2024.

(2) Regulation 5 is deemed to have come into operation on 31 December 2021.

Amendment of regulation 1

2. In the Parliamentary Elections (Exemption from section 83(1)(d) and (2)) Regulations 2011 (G.N. No. S 139/2011) (called in these Regulations the principal Regulations), in regulation 1, replace “section 83(1)(d)” with “section 83(1)(c)”.

Amendment of regulation 2

3. In the principal Regulations, in regulation 2 —

(a)	delete “, unless the context otherwise requires”;
(b)	in the definition of “assembly centre”, replace “49A(5)” with “56E(1)”; and
(c)	delete the definitions of “banner” and “poster”.

Amendment of regulation 3

4. In the principal Regulations, in regulation 3 —

(a)

replace the regulation heading with —

“Exemption for authorised works”;

(b)

replace “Section 83(1)(d)” with “Section 83(1)(c)”;

(c)

replace “with an authorised person” with “between an authorised person and a candidate or the candidate’s election agent”;

(d)

replace paragraph (a) with —

“(a)	the public display of traditional election advertising;”; and

(e)

in paragraph (b), replace “election posters and banners” with “traditional election advertising”.

Miscellaneous amendments

5. In the principal Regulations, in regulation 2 —

(a)	in the definition of “permanent resident”, replace “(Cap. 133)” with “1959”; and
(b)	in the definition of “work pass”, replace “(Cap. 91A)” with “1990”.
