Singapore Academy of Law Act
(Chapter 294A)
Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 2006
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 27 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act, the Senate of the Academy hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment) Rules 2006 and shall come into operation on 22nd August 2006.
Amendment of rule 5
2.  Rule 5 of the Singapore Academy of Law Rules (R 1) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended —
(a)by deleting sub-paragraph (c) of paragraph (1) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:
(c)the chairman of any committee appointed by the Senate.”; and
(b)by deleting paragraph (5).
Amendment of rule 7
3.  Rule 7 (2) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting sub-paragraph (b) and substituting the following sub-paragraph:
(b)study and advise on training and accreditation schemes for the members of the Academy;”.
Amendment of rule 10
4.  Rule 10 (1) of the principal Rules is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “2 legal officers” in sub-paragraph (b) and substituting the words “one legal officer”;
(b)by deleting the words “2 advocates and solicitors” in sub-paragraph (c) and substituting the words “one advocate and solicitor”;
(c)by deleting the words “2 persons” in sub-paragraph (d) and substituting the words “one person”; and
(d)by deleting the words “2 other persons” in sub-paragraph (e) and substituting the words “5 other persons”.
Amendment of rule 11
5.  Rule 11 of the principal Rules is amended by deleting paragraph (3).
New rule 15A
6.  The principal Rules are amended by inserting, immediately after rule 15, the following rule:
Non-voting members
15A.—(1)  The chairman of any committee may co-opt any number of non-voting members, except that the number of non-voting members shall not exceed the number of voting members.
(2)  For the purposes of paragraph (1) —
(a)a member of any committee appointed by the Senate shall be a voting member; and
(b)a person co-opted by the chairman of any committee shall be a non-voting member.”.
