Legal Profession (Qualified Persons)
(Amendment) Rules 2017
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(2) of the Legal Profession Act, the Minister for Law, after consulting the Board of Directors of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education, makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules are the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) (Amendment) Rules 2017 and come into operation on 15 September 2017.
Amendment of rule 2
2.  Rule 2 of the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules (R 15) (called in these Rules the principal Rules) is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “SIM University” in paragraph (a)(ii)(F) of the definition of “approved twinning programme” and substituting the words “Singapore University of Social Sciences (formerly known as the SIM University)”;
(b)by deleting the words “SIM University” in paragraph (a)(ii)(G) of the definition of “approved twinning programme” and substituting the words “Singapore University of Social Sciences”; and
(c)by deleting the words “SIM University” in the definition of “relevant non‑law degree” and substituting the words “Singapore University of Social Sciences (formerly known as the SIM University)”.
Amendment of rule 6
3.  Rule 6 of the principal Rules is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “SIM University” wherever they appear in paragraphs (1) and (2) and substituting in each case the words “Singapore University of Social Sciences”; and
(b)by deleting the words “SIM University” in the rule heading and substituting the words “Singapore University of Social Sciences”.
Amendment of rule 11
4.  Rule 11(4) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “SIM University” in sub‑paragraph (b)(iv) and substituting the words “Singapore University of Social Sciences”.
