(Weekend Detention) (Amendment)
Regulations 2020

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 88 of the Children and Young Persons Act, the Minister for Social and Family Development makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations are the Children and Young Persons (Weekend Detention) (Amendment) Regulations 2020 and come into operation on 1 July 2020.

Amendment of regulation 2

2. Regulation 2 of the Children and Young Persons (Weekend Detention) Regulations 2001 (G.N. No. S 478/2001) (called in these Regulations the principal Regulations) is amended by deleting the definition of “superintendent”.

Amendment of regulation 4

3. Regulation 4 of the principal Regulations is amended by deleting the words “superintendent or warden or the Director” in paragraph (c) and substituting the words “person‑in‑charge of the place of detention or warden of the approved institution, at which the offender is to serve the order, or the Director‑General”.

Amendment of regulation 7

4. Regulation 7 of the principal Regulations is amended —

(a)	by deleting the words “superintendent or warden or the Director” in paragraph (b)(iii) and substituting the words “person‑in‑charge of the place of detention or warden of the approved institution, at which the offender is serving the order, or the Director‑General”; and
(b)	by deleting the words “superintendent or warden or Director” in paragraph (b)(iii) and substituting the words “person‑in‑charge or warden or Director‑General”.

Amendment of regulation 10

5. Regulation 10 of the principal Regulations is amended —

(a)

by deleting sub‑paragraphs (c) and (d) of paragraph (2) and substituting the following sub‑paragraphs:

“(c)	the person‑in‑charge of the place of detention or warden of the approved institution, at which the offender is serving the weekend detention order; or
(d)	the Director‑General.”; and

(b)

by deleting the words “superintendent or warden” in paragraph (5) and substituting the words “person‑in‑charge of the place of detention or warden of the approved institution, at which the offender is serving the order,”.

Miscellaneous amendments

6. The principal Regulations are amended —

(a)	by deleting the words “superintendent or warden” in regulation 5(b) and substituting the words “person‑in‑charge of the place of detention or warden of the approved institution, at which the offender is to serve the order”; and
(b)	by deleting the words “superintendent or warden” in regulation 6(1) and substituting the words “person‑in‑charge of the place of detention or warden of the approved institution, at which the offender is to serve the order,”.
