Professional Engineers
(Amendment) Rules 2014
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 of the Professional Engineers Act, the Professional Engineers Board, with the approval of the Minister for National Development, hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Professional Engineers (Amendment) Rules 2014 and shall come into operation on 1 January 2015.
Amendment of Fourth Schedule
2.  The Fourth Schedule to the Professional Engineers Rules (R 1) is amended —
(a)by deleting the word “practical” in the heading of the third column;
(b)by deleting paragraphs (i) and (ii) of the conditions in Set (A) in the third column of item 1 and substituting the following paragraph:
(i)he has not less than 4 years (in aggregate) of such experience in geotechnical engineering (whether in Singapore or elsewhere) as may be acceptable to the Board, of which at least 3 years of that experience was obtained whilst practising as a registered professional engineer in Singapore; and”;
(c)by deleting paragraphs (i) and (ii) of the conditions in Set (B) in the third column of item 1 and substituting the following paragraph:
(i)he has not less than 5 years (in aggregate) of such experience in geotechnical engineering (whether in Singapore or elsewhere) as may be acceptable to the Board, of which at least 3 years of that experience was obtained whilst practising as a registered professional engineer in Singapore; and”;
(d)by deleting paragraphs (i) and (ii) of the conditions in Set (A) in the third column of item 2 and substituting the following paragraph:
(i)he has not less than 3 years (in aggregate) of such experience in amusement ride engineering, as may be acceptable to the Board, and obtained whilst practising as a registered professional engineer in Singapore; and”; and
(e)by deleting paragraphs (i) and (ii) of the conditions in Set (B) in the third column of item 2 and substituting the following paragraph:
(i)he has not less than 5 years (in aggregate) of such experience in marine engineering, rail engineering, pressure vessel engineering, lifting equipment engineering or in any field related to amusement ride engineering (whether in Singapore or elsewhere) as may be acceptable to the Board, of which at least 3 years of that experience was obtained whilst practising as a registered professional engineer in Singapore; and”.
Savings
3.  Any application for registration as a specialist professional engineer in the specialised branch of geotechnical engineering or amusement ride engineering received by the Board before 1 January 2015, shall be considered by the Board in accordance with the requirements specified in the third column of the Fourth Schedule to the Professional Engineers Rules in force immediately before that date as if the Schedule had not been amended.
