Passports (Amendment)
Regulations 2016
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 60 of the Passports Act, the Minister for Home Affairs makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations are the Passports (Amendment) Regulations 2016 and come into operation on 1 January 2017.
Amendment of regulation 2
2.  Regulation 2 of the Passports Regulations 2007 (G.N. No. S 651/2007) is amended by deleting the definitions of “fingerprint” and “photograph”.
Amendment of regulation 3
3.  Regulation 3(1) of the Passports Regulations 2007 is amended by inserting, immediately after sub‑paragraph (c), the following sub‑paragraph:
(ca)unless expressly dispensed with by an authorised officer, the following images of the applicant’s irises (taken using iris scanning technologies):
(i)images of the left and right irises;
(ii)where it is possible to take the image of only one iris, an image of that iris;”.
Amendment of regulation 5
4.  Regulation 5(1) of the Passports Regulations 2007 is amended by inserting, immediately after sub‑paragraph (c), the following sub‑paragraph:
(ca)unless expressly dispensed with by an authorised officer, the following images of the applicant’s irises (taken using iris scanning technologies):
(i)images of the left and right irises;
(ii)where it is possible to take the image of only one iris, an image of that iris;”.
