The Singapore Arms in the centre with the year-date “2006” below it and the word “SINGAPORE” in the 4 official languages around the circumference of the coin. The position of the mintmark is at 5 o’clock for all the proof coins.
Inspired by Chinese calligraphy, the dog in the centre is symbolised by the appropriate Chinese character of the “Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches” to enhance the characteristics of the animal and the oriental cultural flavour. The peony, a traditional Chinese symbol of blessings and festive cheer, incorporated on the body of the dog, ushers in the Lunar New Year. The 2 Chinese characters signifying the “Year of the Dog” and the denomination of the coin in figures are above the design. The weight in troy oz / grams and fineness of the coin are at the upper-right circumference for all the coins except for the $2 cupro-nickel coin.
