Legal Profession (Admission)
(Amendment No. 3) Rules 2014
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10(1) and (2) of the Legal Profession Act, the Board of Directors of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education, after consulting the Minister for Law and the Council of the Law Society of Singapore, hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.—(1)  These Rules may be cited as the Legal Profession (Admission) (Amendment No. 3) Rules 2014 and shall, with the exception of rule 3, come into operation on 15 December 2014.
(2)  Rule 3 shall come into operation on 1 February 2015.
Amendment of rule 18
2.  Rule 18 of the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2011 (G.N. No. S 244/2011) is amended —
(a)by deleting paragraph (2) and substituting the following paragraphs:
(2)  A supervising solicitor who is a solicitor of not less than 12 years’ standing must not supervise more than 4 practice trainees at any time.
(2A)  A supervising solicitor who is a solicitor of less than 12 years’ standing must not supervise more than 2 practice trainees at any time.”; and
(b)by inserting, immediately after the words “paragraph (2)” in paragraph (3), the words “or (2A)”.
Amendment of rule 24
3.  Rule 24 of the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2011 is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the words “filing his application for admission” in paragraph (1), the words “and, if he intends to attend the preparatory course leading to Part B of the Singapore Bar Examinations, on or before filing his application for admission to that course”; and
(b)by deleting “$107” in paragraph (3) and substituting “$214”.
