Administration of Muslim Law (Haj) (Amendment) Rules 2008
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 88C of the Administration of Muslim Law Act, the Majlis Ugama Islam, Singapura, with the approval of the Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, charged with the responsibility for the portfolio of the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports (G.N. No. S 323/2006), hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Administration of Muslim Law (Haj) (Amendment) Rules 2008 and shall come into operation on 1st March 2008.
New Part IA
2.  The Administration of Muslim Law (Haj) Rules (R 6) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) are amended by inserting, immediately after rule 2, the following Part:
PART IA
REGISTRATION FOR HAJ
Application for Haj
2A.—(1)  A person, being a citizen or permanent resident of Singapore and 15 years of age or above, who desires to perform the Haj shall apply to the Majlis to be registered to perform the Haj.
(2)  An application under paragraph (1) shall be in such form and manner as the Majlis thinks fit and shall be accompanied by an administration fee of $240.
(3)  The Majlis may approve an application under paragraph (1) on such terms and conditions as the Majlis thinks fit.
(4)  The Majlis may refuse to approve an application made under paragraph (1) if —
(a)the application is not made in accordance with paragraph (2) or with the rules and regulations imposed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia;
(b)the application contains false or misleading information;
(c)the applicant has performed the Haj less than 5 years before the year of the Haj that is the subject of the application; or
(d)the quota allotted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the year of the Haj that is the subject of the application has been taken in full.”.
Amendment of rule 3
3.  Rule 3(2) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$80” in sub-paragraph ( d) and substituting “$160”.
Amendment of rule 14
4.  Rule 14(2) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting “$10” in sub-paragraph (b) and substituting “$20”.
