Essential (Carrying of Firearms and Ammunition) Regulations

Citation
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Essential (Carrying of Firearms and Ammunition) Regulations.
Application
2.—(1)  These Regulations shall apply to such security areas as the Commissioner of Police may by notification in the Gazette specify.
(2)  Such notification shall further specify the hours during which these Regulations shall so apply.
Definitions
3.  In these Regulations, the expressions “ammunition”, “firearm”, “security area” and “security forces” shall have the meanings respectively assigned to them in section 2 of the Internal Security Act [Cap. 143].
Prohibition on carrying of firearm and ammunition
4.—(1)  No person shall during the hours specified in the notification referred to in regulation 2(2) carry any firearm or ammunition in any security area to which these Regulations apply.
(2)  Any person who contravenes paragraph (1) and who, but for that paragraph, would not have committed any offence relating to the carrying of firearm and ammunition in a security area, shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years.
Saving
5.  Regulation 4 shall not apply to a member of the security forces.
Exemption
6.  The Commissioner of Police or any police officer authorised by him in writing may in relation to any security area exempt any person or class of persons from regulation 4.
