Order 2022

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 56 of the Immigration Act 1959, the Minister for Home Affairs makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1. This Order is the Immigration (Exemption from Section 36) Order 2022 and comes into operation on 23 May 2022.

Exemption

2. A person is exempt from requiring the written permission of the Controller to enter or reside in Singapore under section 36 of the Act only if the person had been removed from or lawfully sent out of Singapore upon the person’s arrival —

(a)

in the case of a person arriving by sea —

(i)	before the person disembarked in Singapore from the vessel on which he or she arrived; or
(ii)	if the person had disembarked for the purposes of an examination under section 24(2) of the Act, after the person returned immediately to the vessel;

(b)

in the case of a person arriving by air at an authorised airport — before the person left the precincts of such airport; or

(c)

in the case of a person entering by land and proceeding to an immigration control post under section 26 of the Act or an authorised train checkpoint under section 25A of the Act — before the person left the precincts of such post or checkpoint for any purpose.
