Infectious Diseases (Notification of Prescribed Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2008
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 73(1) of the Infectious Diseases Act, the Minister for Health hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Notification of Prescribed Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2008 and shall come into operation on 19th December 2008.

Definition
2.  In these Regulations, “electronic notification system” means the electronic notification system set up for the notification of prescribed infectious diseases at http://www.cdlens.moh.gov.sg

Form and manner of notification
3.—(1)  Every notification of a prescribed infectious disease to be given to the Director under section 6(1), (2) and (3) of the Act shall be in the appropriate form set out in the electronic notification system.

(2)  The Director may make any modification or amendment necessary to any form set out in the electronic notification system for the purpose of facilitating the submission of that form.
(3)  Every notification under section 6(1), (2) and (3) of the Act must be given by fax or through the electronic notification system.

Person to be notified
4.  For the purposes of section 6(1), (2) and (3) of the Act, notification of a prescribed infectious disease is treated as having been given to the Director if the notification is given to the Director of the Communicable Diseases Division, Ministry of Health.

Time for notification by medical practitioner
5.—(1)  For the purposes of section 6(1) of the Act, the prescribed time for notification by a medical practitioner is as follows:
(a)where the medical practitioner has reason to believe or suspects that a person attended or treated by the medical practitioner is suffering from, or is a carrier of, a prescribed infectious disease mentioned in the second column of Part 1 or 2 (as the case may be) of the Schedule — the time specified in the third column of that Part that corresponds to that prescribed infectious disease, starting when the medical practitioner so believes or suspects; and
(b)where a medical practitioner —
(i)has reason to believe or suspects that a person attended or treated by the medical practitioner is suffering from, or is a carrier of, a prescribed infectious disease mentioned in the second column of Part 1 or 3 (as the case may be) of the Schedule; and
(ii)during the attendance or treatment, performs a diagnostic test on that person and becomes aware that the person is suffering from, or is a carrier of, that prescribed infectious disease,
the time specified in the third column of that Part that corresponds to that prescribed infectious disease, starting when the medical practitioner becomes so aware.
(2)  For the purposes of section 6(3)(b) of the Act and subject to paragraph (3), the prescribed time for notification by a medical practitioner who is aware or suspects that a person has died while suffering from, or being a carrier of, a prescribed infectious disease mentioned in the second column of Part 1 or 2 (as the case may be) of the Schedule is the time specified in the third column of that Part that corresponds to that prescribed infectious disease, starting when the medical practitioner becomes so aware or suspects.
(3)  To avoid doubt, paragraph (2) does not apply if the medical practitioner had notified the Director under section 6(1) of the Act that the medical practitioner had reason to believe or suspect that the person was suffering from, or was a carrier of, the prescribed infectious disease.

Time for notification by person in charge of laboratory
5A.  For the purposes of section 6(2) of the Act, the prescribed time for notification by a person in charge of a laboratory who becomes aware of the existence of a prescribed infectious disease mentioned in the second column of Part 1 or 3 (as the case may be) of the Schedule is the time specified in the third column of that Part that corresponds to that prescribed infectious disease, starting when the person becomes so aware.

Revocation
6.  The Infectious Diseases (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2004 (G.N. No. S 177/2004) are revoked.
