Citation
1.  This Order may be cited as the Medicines (Exemption) Order.
Saving
2.  The restrictions or requirements imposed by sections 5, 6 and 22 of the Act shall not apply to anything done before 30th June 1987.
Exemption for person selling medicinal products before 30th June 1987
3.—(1)  Except as provided in sub-paragraphs (2) and (3), section 5(1) and (2) of the Act shall not have effect in relation to a person in respect of his selling medicinal products of any description, if, in the course of a business carried on by him, medicinal products of that description were sold at any time before 30th June 1987.
(2)  Sub-paragraph (1) shall not apply to —
(a)hypnotics, sedatives, tranquillizers, anti-depressants and narcotic drugs;
(b)cardiovascular drugs and diuretics;
(c)antibacterials, antibiotics, anti-cancer drugs, antifungals, antimalarials, antileprotics, anti-parasitic agents, antituberculous agents, anti-virals and sulphonamides; and
(d)vaccines and human blood products,
which are sold on or after 1st July 1988.
(3)  Sub-paragraph (1) shall not apply to any medicinal product which is first sold in Singapore on or after 30th June 1987.
Medicinal products manufactured before 1st July 1988
4.  Section 6(2) of the Act shall not have effect in relation to a person in respect of his manufacturing or assembling medicinal products of any description in the course of a business carried on by him, if, in the course of that business, medicinal products of that description were manufactured or assembled at any time before 1st July 1988.
Exemption for selling or offering for sale medicinal products before 1st July 1988
5.—(1)  Except as provided in sub-paragraph (2), section 6(3) of the Act shall not have effect in relation to a person in respect of his selling or offering for sale any medicinal products by way of wholesale dealing in the course of a business carried on by him, if, in the course of that business, medicinal products were being sold or offered for sale by way of wholesale dealing at any time before 1st July 1988.
(2)  Sub-paragraph (1) shall not apply to —
(a)hypnotics, sedatives, tranquillizers, anti-depressants and narcotic drugs;
(b)cardiovascular drugs and diuretics;
(c)antibacterials, antibiotics, anti-cancer drugs, antifungals, antimalarials, antileprotics, anti-parasitic agents, antituberculous agents, anti-virals and sulphonamides; and
(d)vaccines and human blood products,
which are sold or offered for sale by way of wholesale dealing on or after 1st July 1988.
