Wrought iron, mild steel plates and sections for hulls
47.—(1)  Owing to the uniform character and quality of wrought iron and mild steel plates and sections used in the construction of the hulls of ships, surveyors need not necessarily witness the tests of such material.
(2)  In the case of a classed steamship a surveyor of ships shall be satisfied that these materials comply with the requirements of the Classification Society. If the steamship is unclassed, the surveyor of ships shall see that the materials have been manufactured and tested in accordance with an approved standard specification, and for this purpose the certificates of the steel makers or of the surveyors of any approved Classification Society may be accepted.
