(Exemptions — Miscellaneous Amendments)
Order 2024

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 97 of the Co‑operative Societies Act 1979, the Minister for Culture, Community and Youth makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.—(1) This Order is the Co-operative Societies (Exemptions — Miscellaneous Amendments) Order 2024 and, except for paragraphs 3(a) and 4(d), comes into operation on 1 January 2025.

(2) Paragraphs 3(a) and 4(d) are deemed to have come into operation on 31 December 2021.

Amendment of Co-operative Societies (Exemption under Section 97) (No. 6) Order 2010

2. In the Co‑operative Societies (Exemption under Section 97) (No. 6) Order 2010 (G.N. No. S 603/2010), replace paragraph 2 with —

“Exemption

2. NTUC Foodfare Co‑operative Limited is exempted from the requirement in section 39(2) of the Act that membership in any secondary society is to be restricted to registered co‑operative societies, trade unions and platform work associations.”.

Amendment of Co‑operative Societies (Exemption under Section 97) (No. 3) Order 2011

3. In the Co‑operative Societies (Exemption under Section 97) (No. 3) Order 2011 (G.N. No. S 384/2011) —

(a)	in paragraph 2, in the definition of “company”, replace “(Cap. 50)” with “1967”;
(b)	in paragraph 4, replace “and trade unions” with “, trade unions and platform work associations”; and
(c)	in paragraph 5, replace “or trade union” with “, trade union or platform work association”.

Amendment of Co‑operative Societies (Exemption under Section 97) (No. 3) Order 2012

4. In the Co‑operative Societies (Exemption under Section 97) (No. 3) Order 2012 (G.N. No. S 329/2012), in paragraph 2 —

(a)	in sub‑paragraph (1), replace “NTUC Social Capital Co‑operative Limited (referred to in this Order as the NSC)” with “NTUC Enterprise Co‑operative Limited (formerly known as NTUC Social Capital Co‑operative Limited) (called in this Order the NEC)”;
(b)	in sub‑paragraph (1)(a), replace “and trade unions” with “, trade unions and platform work associations”;
(c)	in sub‑paragraph (1)(b), replace “or trade union” with “, trade union or platform work association”;
(d)	in sub‑paragraph (2), replace “(Cap. 302)” with “1977”;
(e)	in sub‑paragraph (2), replace “NSC” wherever it appears with “NEC”; and
(f)	in sub‑paragraph (2), replace “neither a registered co‑operative society nor a trade union” with “not a registered co‑operative society, trade union or platform work association”.
