Terms of Use

Thank you for visiting the Singapore Statutes Online (“SSO”). Your access and use of SSO constitutes your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not accept these Terms of Use, please discontinue your access and do not use SSO.

General test
(1)  These Terms of Use may be amended from time to time without prior or further notice to you. Your use of SSO after any amendment to these Terms of Use will constitute your acceptance of the amended Terms of Use.

Proprietary Rights
(2)  SSO is owned by the Government of Singapore (represented in these Terms of Use as the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Singapore (“AGC”)), and is maintained by the Legislation Division of AGC.

(3)  The materials, including but not limited to Singapore legislation, text, compilations, graphics, images, software programs and all other kinds of works, comprised in or displayed on SSO (“the Contents”) are protected by copyright, trademark and other forms of proprietary rights. All rights, title and interest in the Contents are owned by, licensed to or controlled by AGC.

Restrictions on Use
(5)  Except as set out in clause (13) of these Terms of Use, the Contents shall not be used, reproduced, republished, uploaded, posted, transmitted or otherwise distributed in any way, without the prior written permission of AGC.

(6)  Without limiting clause (5) of these Terms of Use, graphics and images comprised in or displayed on SSO shall not be used, reproduced or appropriated in any manner without the prior written permission of AGC.

(7)  Modification of any of the Contents, or use of any of the Contents for any unauthorised purpose, will be a violation of AGC’s copyright and other intellectual property rights.

Legislation Content of SSO
(8)  SSO consolidates and reproduces an unofficial version of Singapore legislation. The legislation content of SSO is not and should not be relied upon as the authoritative text of Singapore legislation. Section 48 of the Interpretation Act 1965 does not apply to anything printed, downloaded or copied from SSO.

(9)  SSO is not a substitute for independent professional advice and you should obtain appropriate professional advice as to the content, application and interpretation of Singapore legislation that may be relevant to your particular circumstances.

Disclaimers of Warranties and Liability
(10)  The Contents are provided without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, AGC does not warrant and hereby disclaims any warranty:

(a)as to the accuracy, correctness, completeness, reliability, timeliness, non-infringement, title, merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose of the Contents;
(b)that the Contents, or any functions of or available through SSO, will be error free or available without delay or interruption, or that defects will be corrected, or that SSO and the server hosting SSO are and will remain free of all viruses and/or other harmful elements.

(11)    AGC shall also not be liable for any damage, loss or liability of any kind (whether actual, anticipated, consequential, special, economic or otherwise) caused as a result (direct or indirect) of the use of, or inability to access or use, SSO, including but not limited to any damage, loss or liability suffered as a result of reliance on the Contents.

Right of Access
(12)  AGC reserves the right to deny or restrict access to SSO to any particular person, or to block access from a particular Internet address to SSO, at any time and without ascribing any reason or giving any notice.

Use/Reproduction of Singapore legislation
(13)  AGC has granted permission to the users of SSO to use/reproduce any Singapore legislation for the purposes of any print or electronic material or platform (collectively, “the relevant material/platform”), subject to these Terms of Use and the following conditions:

(a)the following information must be included in the relevant material/platform:

(i)that the Singapore legislation is subject to copyright of the Singapore Government and is used/reproduced for the purposes of the relevant material/platform with the permission of AGC;

(ii)that the users of the relevant material/platform may check SSO for the latest version of the Singapore legislation;



(b)the producers* of the relevant material/platform are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the Singapore legislation used/reproduced for the purposes of the relevant material/platform;

* “producers of the relevant material/platform” means —

(a)where the relevant material/platform is a printed or electronic material (such as a book) — the authors and publishers of the printed or electronic material; or

(b)where the relevant material/platform is an electronic platform — the owners and operators of the electronic platform.



(c)the use/reproduction of the Singapore legislation for the purposes of the relevant material/platform 

(i)must not convey or create any suggestion that AGC or SSO is associated or affiliated in any manner with, or endorses, the relevant material/platform, the producers of the relevant material/platform or the producers’ affiliates or agent; and

(ii)must not disrupt or affect SSO's performance, cause any harm or damage to SSO, or breach or circumvent any of SSO's security measures;



(d)in the case where the producers, or the producers’ affiliates or agents, intend to extract the Singapore legislation from SSO through automated means, such extraction of the Singapore legislation from SSO is subject to these Terms of Use and the following conditions:

(i)the extraction must only be carried out during the hours of 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. (Singapore Time);

(ii)the extraction must not be carried out in an abusive or intrusive, or a deceptive, manner;

(iii)the extraction must not disrupt or affect SSO’s performance, cause any harm or damage to SSO, or breach or circumvent any of SSO’s security measures.

(14)  AGC may, at any time and without ascribing any reason or giving any prior notice, revoke the permission, or modify the permission or the conditions of the permission, granted under clause (13) of these Terms of Use.

Links from SSO to other websites
(15)  SSO contains hyperlinks to websites which are not maintained by AGC. AGC is not responsible for the contents of those websites and does not endorse the opinions or views expressed in them. AGC shall not be liable for any damage, loss or liability of any kind (whether actual, anticipated, consequential, special, economic or otherwise) arising from the use of the hyperlinks or access to those websites. Use of the hyperlinks and access to such websites are entirely at your own risk.

(16)  Hyperlinks to other websites are provided for your convenience. Under no circumstances shall AGC be considered to be associated or affiliated with any trade or service marks, logos, insignia or other devices used or appearing on websites to which SSO is hyperlinked.

(17)  AGC reserves the right to remove or disable any hyperlink to any website on SSO, at any time and without ascribing any reason or giving any notice. AGC shall not be liable for any damage, loss or liability of any kind (whether actual, anticipated, consequential, special, economic or otherwise) caused as a result (direct or indirect) of the removal or disabling of any hyperlink.

Links to SSO from other websites/electronic platforms
(18)  Except as set out below, caching and links to, and the framing of, SSO (or any part of it) or any of the Contents are prohibited.

(19)  AGC has granted permission to the users of SSO to create hyperlinks to SSO in the users' websites/electronic platforms, subject to these Terms of Use and the following conditions:

(a)when SSO (or any of the Contents) is accessed through a hyperlink provided in the user's website/electronic platform, the entire page of SSO (with SSO's banner and logo) must be displayed as it is;
(b)the Contents (or any part of it) or SSO (or any part of it) must not be embedded or framed within the user's website/electronic platform;
(c)without limiting clause (23) of these Terms of Use, the hyperlinking must not create any suggestion that SSO or AGC is associated or affiliated in any manner with the user, the user’s affiliates and/or the user's website/electronic platform.

(20)  You must obtain AGC’s written permission prior to framing SSO (or any part of it) or any of the Contents, or engaging in similar activities. AGC may, at its sole and absolute discretion, grant (on such conditions as AGC deems fit) or refuse permission for the framing of SSO (or any part of it) or any of the Contents.

(21)  AGC may, at any time and without ascribing any reason or giving any prior notice, revoke any permission, or modify any permission or the conditions of the permission, granted under clause (19) or (20) of these Terms of Use.

(22)  Your linking to, or framing of, SSO (or any part of it) or any of the Contents constitutes acceptance of these Terms of Use (including any amendment to these Terms of Use after the hyperlinking or framing). If you do not accept these Terms of Use, you must immediately discontinue linking to, or the framing of, SSO or the Contents.

(23)  Under no circumstances shall AGC be considered to be associated or affiliated with any trade or service marks, logos, insignia or other devices used or appearing on websites/electronic platforms that link to or frame SSO (or any part of it) or any of the Contents.

(24)  AGC reserves the right to disable any unauthorised links to, or frames of, SSO (or any part of it) or any of the Contents, at any time and without ascribing any reason or giving any notice.

(25)  Without limiting clause (24) of these Terms of Use, AGC reserves the right to, at any time and without ascribing any reason or giving any notice, disable any link to, or any frame of, SSO (or any part of it) or any of the Contents in any website/electronic platform containing inappropriate, profane, defamatory, infringing, obscene, indecent or unlawful material or information, or material or information that violates any written law or any applicable intellectual property, proprietary, publicity or other rights.

(26)  AGC reserves the right to change the URL of SSO or any part of it, at any time and without any notice.

(27)  AGC shall not be liable for any damage, loss or liability of any kind (whether actual, anticipated, consequential, special, economic or otherwise) caused as a result (direct or indirect) of the disabling of any link or frame under clause (24) or (25) or the changing of any URL under clause (26) of these Terms of Use.

Governing Law
(28)  These Terms of Use shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Singapore. Any claim relating to use of SSO or any of the Contents shall be exclusively heard by the Singapore Courts.
