The following Act was passed by Parliament on 2nd May 1996 and assented to by the President on 17th May 1996:— |
Transfer of the Nanyang University Alumni Register Act 1996 |

An Act to provide for the transfer of part of the Register of Graduates of the National University of Singapore to the Nanyang Technological University and for matters connected therewith. |
Whereas the former University of Singapore established and incorporated by the repealed University of Singapore Act (Chapter 181 of the 1970 Revised Edition) was merged with the former Nanyang University established and incorporated by the repealed Nanyang University Act (Chapter 178 of the 1970 Revised Edition) on 8th August 1980 to form the National University of Singapore: |
And Whereas part of the Register of Graduates of the National University of Singapore comprises the names of all members of the Guild of Graduates of the former Nanyang University and the names of all subscribers of the former Nanyang University: |
And Whereas the Association of Nanyang University Graduates has requested and the Government has agreed that the names of the Guild of Graduates of the former Nanyang University be transferred from the Register of Graduates of the National University of Singapore to the Register of Graduates of the Nanyang Technological University. |
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows: |
Short title and commencement |
1. This Act may be cited as the Transfer of the Nanyang University Alumni Register Act 1996 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint. |
Interpretation |
2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires —

3. On the commencement of this Act —

Transitional rules |
4. The Minister may make rules generally for the purpose of removing any difficulty which may arise by reason of the transfer of the registers and other documents referred to in section 3, and any rules so made shall have effect notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any written law. |
Consequential amendments |
5. The enactments mentioned in the Schedule shall have effect subject to the amendments to the extent specified therein (being amendments consequential on the preceding provisions of this Act). |
