Electrical Workers and Contractors Licensing (Amendment) Bill

An Act to amend the Electrical Workers and Contractors Licensing Act (Chapter 89 of the Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows:
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Electrical Workers and Contractors Licensing (Amendment) Act 1988 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Amendment of sections 6, 10 and 13
2.  Sections 6(3), 10 and 13(e) of the Electrical Workers and Contractors Licensing Act are amended by deleting “$2,000” wherever it appears and substituting in each case “$5,000”.
New section 14
3.  The Electrical Workers and Contractors Licensing Act is amended by inserting, immediately after section 13, the following section:
Compounding of offences
14.—(1)  The Board may, in its discretion, compound any offence under this Act or any regulations made thereunder which is prescribed as a compoundable offence by collecting from a person reasonably suspected of having committed the offence a sum not exceeding $200.
(2)  The Board may, with the approval of the Minister, make regulations to prescribe the offences which may be compounded.
(3)  All sums collected under this section shall be paid to the Board.”.
