Legal Profession (Admission)
(Amendment No. 3) Rules 2024

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 10(1) and (2) of the Legal Profession Act 1966, the Board of Directors of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education, after consulting the Minister for Law and the Council of the Law Society of Singapore, makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Legal Profession (Admission) (Amendment No. 3) Rules 2024 and come into operation on 16 July 2024.

Amendment of rule 30

2. In the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2011 (G.N. No. S 244/2011), in rule 30, replace paragraph (2) with —

“(2) Subject to any modification necessary to conform to the religious beliefs of the person so admitted, the declaration must be —

(a)	if the person is admitted as an advocate and solicitor before 19 August 2024 — in Form 1 as set out in the First Schedule; or
(b)	if the person is admitted as an advocate and solicitor on or after 19 August 2024 — in Form 2 as set out in the First Schedule.”.

Replacement of First Schedule

3. In the Legal Profession (Admission) Rules 2011, replace the First Schedule with —

“FIRST SCHEDULE

Rule 30(2)

FORM 1

DECLARATION

I, A.B., do solemnly and sincerely declare (and swear) that I will truly and honestly conduct myself in the practice of an advocate and solicitor according to the best of my knowledge and ability and according to law.

(So help me God.)

FORM 2

DECLARATION

I, [name], recognising the privilege and responsibility of being a member of an honourable profession, do solemnly and sincerely declare and aﬃrm (or swear) that —

I am an oﬃcer of the Court;

I will truly and honestly conduct myself in the practice of an advocate and solicitor according to the best of my knowledge and ability and according to law;

I will at all times honour my duties and responsibilities to the Court, to my clients and to fellow members of the legal profession;

I will strive to uphold the values and best traditions of the legal profession; and

I will respect and uphold the rule of law, promote the ends of justice and serve the public good, sincerely and to the best of my ability.

(So help me God.)

”.

Revocation

4. Revoke the Legal Profession (Admission) (Amendment) Rules 2024 (G.N. No. S 215/2024).
