Societies Act 1966
Societies (Amendment) Regulations 2024
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 34(1) of the Societies Act 1966, the Minister for Home Affairs makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations are the Societies (Amendment) Regulations 2024 and come into operation on 2 May 2024.
Amendment of regulation 3
2.  In the Societies Regulations (Rg 1), in regulation 3(5) —
(a)replace “$500” with “$1,000”; and
(b)replace “$50” with “$100”.
Amendment of regulation 6
3.  In the Societies Regulations, in regulation 6(5) —
(a)replace “$500” with “$1,000”; and
(b)replace “$50” with “$100”.
Amendment of regulation 7
4.  In the Societies Regulations, in regulation 7(2), replace “$500” with “$1,000”.
Amendment of regulation 8
5.  In the Societies Regulations, in regulation 8 —
(a)in the regulation heading, delete “or place of business”; and
(b)in paragraph (1)(a), delete “or place of business”.
New regulation 8A
6.  In the Societies Regulations, after regulation 8, insert —
Application for change of registered address
8A.—(1)  A registered society must not change its registered address without the prior permission in writing of the Registrar or an Assistant Registrar.
(2)  An application for permission to change the registered address of a registered society under paragraph (1) must —
(a)be made in writing to the Registrar or an Assistant Registrar; and
(b)be signed by the president and secretary of the registered society or by its officers holding analogous positions.
(3)  If a registered society fails to comply with paragraph (1), the society and every officer of the society shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000.”.
Amendment of regulation 9
7.  In the Societies Regulations, in regulation 9 —
(a)in the regulation heading, replace “place of business” with “registered address”; and
(b)replace “place of business” with “registered address”.
Amendment of regulation 10
8.  In the Societies Regulations, in regulation 10, replace paragraph (1) with —
(1)  The fees specified in the Schedule are payable to the Registrar.
(1A)  Any fee paid under paragraph (1) is not refundable.”.
Amendment of regulation 11
9.  In the Societies Regulations, in regulation 11(b), replace “an over‑the‑counter search in respect” with “a certified true copy”.
New Schedule
10.  In the Societies Regulations, after regulation 11, insert —

1.Application fee for the registration of a specified society under section 4(1) of the Act

2.Application fee for the registration of a society other than a specified society under section 4A(1) of the Act

3.Application fee for the approval of a change of name of a registered society under section 11(1)(a) of the Act
$70
4.Application fee for the approval of any amendment of the rules of a registered society under section 11(1)(b) of the Act
$130
5.Application fee for the consent to the use of a flag, a symbol, an emblem, a badge or other insignia by a registered society under section 13(1) of the Act
$40
6.Application fee for the approval of a change of the registered address of a registered society under regulation 8A
$40
