An Act to amend the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act (Chapter 189 of the 1985 Revised Edition).
Be it enacted by the President with the advice and consent of the Parliament of Singapore, as follows:
Short title and commencement
1.  This Act may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) (Amendment) Act 1994 and shall come into operation on such date as the Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint.
Amendment of section 6
2.  Section 6(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act (referred to in this Act as the principal Act) is amended by deleting “$500” in the first line and substituting “$5,000”.
Amendment of section 9
3.  Section 9 of the principal Act is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the word “judgment” in the third line of subsection (1), the words “for a sum exceeding $5,000”; and
(b)by inserting, immediately after the word “judgment” in the first line of subsection (8), the words “for a sum exceeding $5,000”.
Amendment of section 18
4.  Section 18 (3) of the principal Act is amended by inserting, immediately after the words “subsection (2)” in the fourth line, the words “, except in respect of a judgment or settlement for a sum not exceeding $5,000,”.
