(Amendment No. 4) Rules 2023

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 27 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act 1988, the Senate of the Singapore Academy of Law makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment No. 4) Rules 2023 and come into operation on 1 January 2024.

Amendment of rule 13

2. In the Singapore Academy of Law Rules (R 1) (called in these Rules the principal Rules), in rule 13, replace “$86.40” with “$87.20”.

Amendment of Third Schedule

3. In the principal Rules, in the Third Schedule, in paragraphs 1 and 2, replace “5.4%” with “5.45%”.

Amendment of Fourth Schedule

4. In the principal Rules, in the Fourth Schedule —

(a)

in Part IV, in the Part heading, after “2023)”, insert “AND FOR 2024 (IF PAID BEFORE 1 January 2024)”;

(b)

in Part IV, after “January 2023)”, insert “and for 2024 (if paid before 1 January 2024)”;

(c)

in Part IV, in item 2, replace “rule 3(4A)” with “rule 3(4) or (4A), as the case may be”; and

(d)

after Part IV, insert —

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR 2024
(IF PAID ON OR AFTER 1 January 2024)
AND SUBSEQUENT YEARS

The annual subscription payable by a member belonging to a category of members specified in the first column for the subscription year 2024 (if paid on or after 1 January 2024) and for every subsequent subscription year, is as specified in the second column.

1.	Fellows who are persons other than those mentioned in section 12(c) and (d) of the Act

2.	Ordinary members who are advocates and solicitors, Judicial Service Officers, Legal Service Officers or PD Officers, where, at the time the subscription is payable in accordance with rule 3(4) —

(a)	more than 15 years have elapsed from the date of admission as an advocate and solicitor or appointment as a Judicial Service Officer, a Legal Service Officer or a PD Officer, whichever is the earlier date

(b)	not less than 5 years but not more than 15 years have elapsed from the date of admission as an advocate and solicitor or appointment as a Judicial Service Officer, a Legal Service Officer or a PD Officer, whichever is the earlier date

(c)	less than 5 years have elapsed from the date of admission as an advocate and solicitor or appointment as a Judicial Service Officer, a Legal Service Officer or a PD Officer, whichever is the earlier date

3.	Foreign lawyers who are ordinary members under section 14(c) of the Act

4.	Associate members who are persons other than law students

$218.00
