(Amendment No. 2) Rules 2021

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 45(2) of the Road Traffic Act, the Minister for Home Affairs makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Road Traffic (Driver Improvement Points System) (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2021 and come into operation on 1 July 2021.

Amendment of rule 2

2. Rule 2 of the Road Traffic (Driver Improvement Points System) Rules (R 25) is amended by deleting the full‑stop at the end of the definition of “school zone” and substituting a semi‑colon, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following definition:

“ “silver zone” means any part of a road that is between a traffic sign indicating the beginning of a silver zone and a traffic sign indicating the end of a silver zone.”.

Amendment of rule 3

3. Rule 3 of the Road Traffic (Driver Improvement Points System) Rules is amended by deleting paragraph (1A) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(1A) Where the scheduled offence mentioned in paragraph (1) —

(a)	is an offence listed in item (1)(a) to (e), (2)(a) to (e), (5), (7), (8), (9), (10), (12), (13), (18), (23), (24), (25), (26), (27) or (42) of the Schedule; and
(b)	is committed, or is reasonably suspected to have been committed, in a school zone or a silver zone by a licence holder,

the Deputy Commissioner of Police may award against the holder concerned 2 demerit points in addition to the demerit points awarded under paragraph (1).”.
