(Application for Avoidance of Election)
(Amendment) Rules 2022
In exercise of the powers conferred on us by section 80 of the Supreme Court of Judicature Act 1969, Article 93A(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore and all other powers enabling us under any written law, we, the Rules Committee, make the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules are the Supreme Court (Presidential Elections) (Application for Avoidance of Election) (Amendment) Rules 2022 and come into operation on 1 April 2022.
Amendment of rule 2
2.  Rule 2 of the Supreme Court (Presidential Elections) (Application for Avoidance of Election) Rules (R 7) (called in these Rules the principal Rules) is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the definition of “application under section 71”, the following definition:
“ “claimant” means a person making an application under section 71, and includes the Presidential Elections Committee making such an application;”; and
(b)by deleting the definition of “plaintiff”.
Amendment of rule 36
3.  Rule 36(3) of the principal Rules is amended by deleting the words “Order 91 of the Rules of Court (R 5)” and substituting the words “Order 25 of the Rules of Court 2021 (G.N. No. S 914/2021)”.
Miscellaneous amendments
4.  The principal Rules are amended —
(a)by deleting the word “leave” wherever it appears in the following provisions and substituting in each case the word “permission”:

The Schedule (Form 3);
(b)by deleting the words “originating summons” in the following provisions and substituting in each case the words “originating application”:

(i)by deleting the word “Plaintiff” wherever it appears in the following provisions and substituting in each case the word “Claimant”:
