Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles)
(Vocational Licences and Conduct of Drivers, Conductors, Trishaw Riders and Passengers) (Amendment) Rules 2011

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 111 of the Road Traffic Act, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore hereby makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules may be cited as the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Vocational Licences and Conduct of Drivers, Conductors, Trishaw Riders and Passengers) (Amendment) Rules 2011 and shall come into operation on 1st February 2011.

Amendment of rule 6

2. Rule 6 of the Road Traffic (Public Service Vehicles) (Vocational Licences and Conduct of Drivers, Conductors, Trishaw Riders and Passengers) Rules (R 8) (referred to in these Rules as the principal Rules) is amended by deleting paragraph (2) and substituting the following paragraph:

“(2) No licence to act as a driver of a vehicle or as a trishaw rider shall be granted to a person who is 60 years of age or above unless the Registrar is satisfied that such person is a fit and proper person to be licensed.”.

Amendment of rule 9A

3. Rule 9A(2) of the principal Rules is amended —

(a)

by deleting the word “or” at the end of sub-paragraph (d);

(b)

by deleting the words “but below 73 years” in sub-paragraph (e); and

(c)

by deleting the full-stop at the end of sub-paragraph (e) and substituting a semi-colon, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following sub-paragraphs:

“(f)	a licensee, being a bus driver, who, on or after 1st February 2011, is required to undergo, within 6 months before attaining 70 years of age, an assessment test to assess his fitness to drive at a clinic designated by the Registrar; or
(g)	a licensee, being a bus driver, who, on or after 1st February 2011, is at least 70 years but below 73 years of age and who has not furnished a medical certificate to the Registrar for at least one preceding year.”.

Deletion and substitution of Fourth Schedule

4. The Fourth Schedule to the principal Rules is deleted and the following Schedule substituted therefor:
