Employment Act
(Chapter 91)
Employment (Part-time Employees) (Amendment) Regulations 2008
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 66B of the Employment Act, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Senior Minister of State, charged with the responsibility of the Minister for Manpower, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Employment (Part-Time Employees) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 and shall come into operation on 1st January 2009.
Amendment of regulation 2
2.  Regulation 2 of the Employment (Part-Time Employees) Regulations (Rg 8) (referred to in these Regulations as the principal Regulations) is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “30 hours” in the definitions of “full-time employee” and “part-time employee” in paragraph (1) and substituting in each case the words “35 hours”; and
(b)by deleting the words “section 44(1)” in paragraph (2)(c) and substituting the words “section 89(1) or (2)”.
Amendment of regulation 6
3.  Regulation 6 of the principal Regulations is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “section 42” in paragraph (1) and substituting the words “section 88”; and
(b)by deleting the words “Section 42(4) and (5)” in paragraph (6) and substituting the words “Section 88(4) and (5)”.
Amendment of regulation 7
4.  Regulation 7(3) of the principal Regulations is amended by deleting the words “If the part-time employee” and substituting the words “If a part-time employee (other than a part-time employee who is required under his contract of service with his employer to work for at least 5 days, and 30 hours, a week)”.
Amendment of regulation 8
5.  Regulation 8 of the principal Regulations is amended —
(a)by deleting the words “section 44” in paragraph (1) and substituting the words “section 89”; and
(b)by deleting the words “Section 44(4)” in paragraph (3) and substituting the words “Section 89(5)”.
