Highway (Revision) Code 2024

It is notified for general information that, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 112 of the Road Traffic Act 1961, the Minister for Home Affairs issues the following Code:

Citation and commencement

1. This Code is the Highway (Revision) Code 2024 and comes into operation on 1 March 2024.

Amendment of Part III heading

2. In the Highway Code (R 11), in Part III, in the Part heading, after “PEDAL CYCLISTS”, insert “, RECUMBENT DEVICE RIDERS”.

Amendment of paragraph 36

3. In the Highway Code, in paragraph 36, after “bicycle” wherever it appears, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle or recumbent device”.

Amendment of paragraph 38

4. In the Highway Code, in paragraph 38 —

(a)	after “bicycle’s” wherever it appears, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle’s or recumbent device’s”;
(b)	after “either side of the bicycle”, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle or recumbent device”; and
(c)	after “full control of the bicycle”, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle or recumbent device”.

Amendment or paragraph 39

5. In the Highway Code, in paragraph 39 —

(a)	after “bicycle” wherever it appears, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle or recumbent device”; and
(b)	after “bicycle’s”, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle’s or recumbent device’s”.

Amendment of paragraph 40

6. In the Highway Code, in paragraph 40, after “bicycle”, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle or recumbent device”.

Amendment of paragraph 41

7. In the Highway Code, in paragraph 41, after “bicycle”, insert “, three‑wheeled pedal cycle or recumbent device”.

Amendment of paragraph 44C

8. In the Highway Code, in paragraph 44C, after “personal mobility device”, insert “(other than a three‑wheeled pedal cycle or recumbent device)”.
