(Amendment No. 2) Rules 2023

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 27 of the Singapore Academy of Law Act 1988, the Senate of the Singapore Academy of Law makes the following Rules:

Citation and commencement

1. These Rules are the Singapore Academy of Law (Amendment No. 2) Rules 2023 and come into operation on 1 April 2023.

Amendment of rule 3

2. In the Singapore Academy of Law Rules (R 1), in rule 3, after paragraph (4), insert —

“(4A) Despite paragraphs (1A) and (4), for the subscription year 2023 —

(a)	the category of a member is determined as at 1 April 2023, or the date when the member first becomes a member, whichever is the later date; and
(b)	the annual subscription is payable on or before 1 April 2023, or within 30 days of becoming a member, whichever is the later date.”.

Amendment of Fourth Schedule

3. In the Singapore Academy of Law Rules, in the Fourth Schedule —

(a)	in Part III, in the Part heading, after “2022”, insert “AND 2023 (IF PAID BEFORE 1 January 2023)”;
(b)	in Part III, after “from 2011 to 2022”, insert “and 2023 (if paid before 1 January 2023)”;
(c)	in Part III, in the second column, in the column heading, replace “2011 to 2022” with “Annual subscription”;
(d)	in Part III, in item 2, after “rule 3(4)”, insert “or (4A), as the case may be”;
(e)	in Part IV, in the Part heading, replace “FROM 2023 ONWARDS” with “FOR 2023 (IF PAID ON OR AFTER 1 January 2023)”;
(f)	in Part IV, replace “and for every subsequent subscription year” with “(if paid on or after 1 January 2023)”;
(g)	in Part IV, in item 2, replace “rule 3(4)” with “rule 3(4A)”;
(h)	in Part IV, in item 2(a), replace “12 years” with “15 years”;
(i)	in Part IV, in item 2(b), replace “7 years but not more than 12 years” with “5 years but not more than 15 years”; and
(j)	in Part IV, in item 2(c), replace “7 years” with “5 years”.

Saving provision

4. A member who has, before 1 April 2023 paid his or her annual subscription for the subscription year 2023 in the amount set out in an invoice issued by the Academy to the member, is taken to have paid the annual subscription in accordance with rule 3 of the Singapore Academy of Law Rules as amended by these Rules.
