Road Traffic Act
(Chapter 276)
Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) (Amendment No. 3) Rules 2009
In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 34 and 140 of the Road Traffic Act, the Minister for Transport hereby makes the following Rules:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) (Amendment No. 3) Rules 2009 and shall come into operation on 25th May 2009.
Amendment of rule 25
2.  Rule 25 of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) Rules (R 5) is amended —
(a)by deleting the word “and” at the end of paragraph (5)(a);
(b)by deleting the comma at the end of sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph (5) and substituting the word “; and”, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following sub-paragraph:
(c)at the expiration of the 3-month period referred to in sub-paragraph (b), extend the period of registration of the vehicle in the name of the firm or company for a further period of 3 months upon the payment of a fee of $90,”;
(c)by inserting, immediately after paragraph (5), the following paragraph:
(5A)  Paragraph (5)(c) shall not apply to —
(a)any vehicle where the 3-month extension of the period of registration of the vehicle in the name of the firm or company as extended under paragraph (5)(b) had expired before 25th May 2009; or
(b)any vehicle the registration of which is temporarily transferred to the name of such firm or company referred to under paragraph (4) on or after 25th May 2010.”; and
(d)by deleting the words “paragraph (5)(b)” in paragraph (6) and substituting the words “paragraph (5)(a), (b) or (c), as the case may be”.
Amendment of rule 26
3.  Rule 26 of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) Rules is amended —
(a)by deleting the word “and” at the end of paragraph (2)(a);
(b)by deleting the comma at the end of sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph (2) and substituting the word “; and”, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following sub-paragraph:
(c)at the expiration of the 3-month period referred to in sub-paragraph (b), extend the period of registration of the vehicle in the name of the firm or company for a further period of 3 months upon the payment of a fee of $90,”;
(c)by inserting, immediately after paragraph (2), the following paragraph:
(2A)  Paragraph (2)(c) shall not apply to —
(a)any vehicle where the 3-month extension of the period of registration of the vehicle in the name of the firm or company as extended under paragraph (2)(b) had expired before 25th May 2009; or
(b)any vehicle the registration of which is temporarily transferred to the name of such firm or company referred to under paragraph (1) on or after 25th May 2010.”; and
(d)by deleting the words “paragraph (2)(b)” in paragraph (3) and substituting the words “paragraph (2)(a), (b) or (c), as the case may be”.
