Central Provident Fund (MediShield Scheme) (Amendment) Regulations 2008

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 57 of the Central Provident Fund Act, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Senior Minister of State, charged with the responsibility of the Minister for Manpower, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Central Provident Fund (MediShield Scheme) (Amendment) Regulations 2008 and shall come into operation on 1st May 2008.

Amendment of regulation 2

2. Regulation 2 of the Central Provident Fund (MediShield Scheme) Regulations 2005 (G.N. No. S 427/2005) (referred to in these Regulations as the principal Regulations) is amended by inserting, immediately after the definition of “member”, the following definition:

“ “national school” means —

(a)	a school which is organised and conducted directly by the Government;
(b)	a school which is in receipt of grant-in-aid under the Education (Grant-in-Aid) Regulations (Cap. 87, Rg 3); or
(c)	a school which is named in any order made under section 3(1) of the School Boards (Incorporation) Act (Cap. 284A);”.

Amendment of regulation 6

3. Regulation 6(1) of the principal Regulations is amended —

(a)

by deleting the words “entitled to insurance cover under” in sub-paragraphs (a), (b)(iii), (f)(iii) and (g)(iii) and substituting in each case the words “covered, or offered cover, under the Scheme pursuant to”;

(b)

by deleting the word “and” at the end of sub-paragraph (f); and

(c)

by deleting the comma at the end of sub-paragraph (g) and substituting the word “; and”, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following sub-paragraph:

“(h)

any person —

(i)	whose parent or parents (and recognised by the Board as such) is or are members;
(ii)	who is registered at a national school as at 1st May 2008, 1st May 2009, 1st May 2010, 1st May 2011, 1st May 2012, 1st May 2013 or 1st May 2014; and
(iii)	who, being earlier covered, or offered cover, under the Scheme pursuant to any other provision of this regulation or regulation 7(2), has not had such cover terminated under regulation 22 or 23, whether by himself or any other person,”.

Amendment of regulation 8

4. Regulation 8 of the principal Regulations is amended by deleting the words “or (g)” in paragraphs (4), (6A), (6C) and (6D) and substituting in each case the words “, (g) or (h)”.

Amendment of regulation 9

5. Regulation 9(1) of the principal Regulations is amended by deleting the words “or (g)” in sub-paragraph (b) and substituting the words “, (g) or (h)”.
