Sale of Food Act
(Chapter 283)
Food (Amendment) Regulations 1999
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38(1) of the Sale of Food Act, the Minister for the Environment hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Food (Amendment) Regulations 1999 and shall come into operation on 13th June 1999.
Amendment of regulation 18
2.  Regulation 18 of the Food Regulations (Rg 1) is amended —
(a)by deleting paragraph (2) and substituting the following paragraphs:
(2)  No person shall import, sell, advertise, manufacture, consign or deliver —
(a)any saccharin, acesulfame-k or sucralose; or
(b)any food containing saccharin, acesulfame-k or sucralose,
except under a licence issued by the Director.
(2A)  A licence issued under paragraph (2) shall be for such period and be subject to such condition as the Director thinks fit.”; and
(b)by deleting paragraph (4)(a) and substituting the following paragraph:
(4)  Where any food containing saccharin, acesulfame-k or sucralose is sold or intended for sale, the can, bottle or other receptacle in which the food is contained shall have appearing thereon or attached thereto a label with the following words or words to the like effect:
"This (here state the name of the food) contains the artificial sweetening agent (here state the name of the artificial sweetening agent)".”.
Amendment of regulation 19
3.  Regulation 19(2)(b) of the Food Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately after sub-paragraph (vii), the following sub-paragraph and its entries corresponding thereto in the appropriate columns as shown hereunder:

Amendment of regulation 24
4.  Regulation 24 of the Food Regulations is amended by deleting paragraph (2).
Amendment of regulation 28
5.  Regulation 28 of the Food Regulations is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately after the word "food" at the end of paragraph (1), the words "and shall include processing aid"; and
(b)by inserting, immediately after paragraph (3), the following paragraph:
(4)  No person shall import, sell, advertise, manufacture, consign or deliver any food containing residue of acetone unless —
(a)in the case of flavouring, where acetone is used as a processing aid in the production of the flavouring, the residue of acetone does not exceed 5 mg/kg of the flavouring; or
(b)in the case of any food or any food containing flavouring, where acetone is used as a processing aid, in the production of the food or in the production of one or more of its ingredients, the residue of acetone does not exceed 0.1 mg/kg of the food.”.
Amendment of Fifth Schedule
6.  The Fifth Schedule to the Food Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately below the item "Meat, canned, cured, pickled, salted or smoked whether cooked or uncooked", the following item and its entry corresponding thereto in the appropriate column as shown hereunder:

Amendment of Ninth Schedule
7.  The Ninth Schedule to the Food Regulations is amended —
(a)by inserting, immediately below the item "Acetic acid;", the item "Acetone;";
(b)by inserting, immediately below the item "Calcium sulphate;", the item "Candelilla wax;"; and
(c)by inserting, immediately below the item "Glucono delta-lactone;", the item "Glycerin or glycerol;".
