Rapid Transit Systems (Amendment) Regulations 2004

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 42 of the Rapid Transit Systems Act, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, with the approval of the Minister for Transport, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Rapid Transit Systems (Amendment) Regulations 2004 and shall come into operation on 1st June 2004.

New regulation 11A

2. The Rapid Transit Systems Regulations (Rg 1) (referred to in these Regulations as the principal Regulations) is amended by inserting, immediately after regulation 11, the following regulation:

“Searches

11A.—(1) For the purpose of ensuring the safety of persons on any railway premises or using any railway, an authorised person may, upon demand made to a person on any railway premises and without giving any reason, search any baggage or other property in that person’s possession or control; and that person shall permit the baggage or property to be searched.

(2) An authorised person may require any person who refuses to permit any baggage or other property in his possession or control to be searched to leave the railway premises with the baggage or property, and that person shall do so within a reasonable time.”.

Amendment of regulation 53

3. Regulation 53 of the principal Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately after “11,”, “11A,”.

Amendment of Schedule

4. The Schedule to the principal Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately after the item relating to regulation 11, the following items:

Refusing to permit baggage or property to be searched

11A (2)

Refusing to leave railway premises

$500

”.
